Move It Cayman

#MoveItCayman is the national movement challenge spearheaded by the Ministry of Health, Environment and Sustainability, aimed at empowering the nation to get moving!

The STEPS 2023 National Health Survey results provide invaluable information about the health of the Cayman Islands population, focusing on the risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and determinants of ill health. The survey results indicate that:

70%

of individuals in the Cayman Islands are overweight or obese

1 in 4

residing in the Cayman Islands have been diagnosed with raised blood pressure

24%

of the population report never having their blood sugar level measured

Being physically active is important for health. However, about 20% of adults in the Cayman Islands are not getting the recommended amount of physical activity. The World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week for people aged 18 to 69.

More women than men are falling short of this target, with 27% of women not meeting the recommendation compared with 13% of men.

#MoveItCayman aims to raise awareness of the importance of movement for overall health, as well as, the prevention and management of NCDs, and to empower Cayman residents to start moving, one step at a time. Movement is for everyone, at every stage of life.
