Born in the Cayman Islands, artist, Kushana Gentles earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Savannah College of Art & Design, in Savannah Georgia, U.S.A in 2005. Artists such as Tamara de Lempicka, Degas, Salvador Dalí,, William Hogarth, Dürer and Susanna Coffey have influenced her style and technique. Kushana has exhibited in U.S.A. and her latest showing was in Cayfest 2006. She prefers to work in oils and mixed media but also enjoys all aspects of Printmaking, incorporating these methods and techniques into her paintings, blending the traditional with modern.
Kushana was recently invited to attend the UNESCO World Arts Education Conference which was held in Lisbon, Portugal in March 2006 as well as the InSEA Congress Conference which was held in Viseu, Portugal March 2006. Kushana said “this was a great opportunity to be able to attend and be a part of such prestigious events, it keeps one abreast of the new happenings in the art world and keeps the mind fresh and invigorated to create”.
For the past year Kushana has been the Education & Outreach Officer for the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, responsible for the instruction and execution of all nine Outreach Programmes. Kushana can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
