Invitation for Tenderers
The Ministry of Communications, Works and Infrastructure (hereinafter referred to as “Ministry”), through the Department of Environmental Health (“DEH”), invites tenders from qualified tenderers for the purchase of scrap metals accumulated by the Department of Environmental Health at the George Town Landfill (the “Site”). Scrap Metals are defined as all loose and discarded metal items including, but not limited to automobiles (e.g. derelict vehicles), automobile parts, appliances (may or may not include Freon containing appliances), furniture, fixtures, construction debris and any other items consisting primarily of a metal content, including, but not limited to brass, copper, aluminum, steel, tin, cast iron and any other discarded metal suitable for reprocessing. The Scrap Metals have been separated as part of a program to divert them from the other solid waste at the George Town Landfill and to increase the Cayman Island’s recycling rate to ensure that recyclable materials are recycled. The Scrap Metal piles cover approximately 3 acres with an average height of 13 feet. There are already approximately 4000 tons of baled metals apart from the Scrap Metals. A portion of the Scrap Metals has been partially sorted to separate the ferrous and non-ferrous components. There are also 2000 (estimated) derelict vehicles on the Site.
Interested parties’ tenders must reach the Chairman of the Central Tenders Committee (“CTC”) by 12:00 noon July 4th 2008 and be clearly marked: Invitation to Tender Number 700.01.08 CTC - Scrap Metals Proposal on the exterior of a sealed package. The package must be delivered to:
