The Cayman Islands Public Library Service (CIPLS) invites applications for the following post:

Deputy Director

The Deputy Director provides effective and efficient leadership for the development and implementation of all CIPLS services and programmes provided to customers. These services and programmes support the strategic goals of the Ministry of Education, Youth Sports, Agriculture and Landsí (MEYSAL) and aim to improve the quality of life for residents through information access, education and recreation.

Required qualifications, experience and skills include the following:

  • Masterís Degree from an ALA accredited program (or equivalent) in Library and Information Science (MLIS) OR A 1st degree with a commitment to complete a Master in Library and Information Science distance education programme provided by an ALA accredited (or equivalent) school within three years of accepting the Deputy Director position
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful, professional related work experience (education, social work, business, computer technology, customer service), of which at least two must be at a supervisory level
  • Highly computer literate with at least intermediate level Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency, Internet search knowledge and capability and a fundamental understanding of databases.
  • Able to communicate effectively in a variety of settings with both individuals and groups
  • Skilled in hiring practices, employee performance appraisals, and managing staff assignments and schedules
  • Ability to manage projects, implement new information technologies, provide training to others and promote literacy to a variety of audiences

Preferred

  • Experience planning, implementing and evaluating public service programmes for a variety of audiences
  • Experience working in/with any type of library (school, public, academic, special)
  • Experience using any library or inventory management software
  • Experience working in/with any type of library (school, public, academic, special)
  • Experience using any employee scheduling software
