The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism invites applications for the following post:

Accounts Officer I (Revenue)

Reporting to the Revenue and Compliance Accountant, this post will organise, monitor and ensure the collection process for the Tourist Accommodation Charges, Hotel Licenses, Sale of Advertising Space and other Tourism related revenue in accordance with the relevant Laws and Regulations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the maintenance of the computerized revenue system i.e. recording of revenue with all necessary and relevant details of all client data and payments received to provide management with timely, accurate and up-to-date information;
  • Monitor and verify the collection of all Tourism related revenues accurately in accordance with the Tourism Accommodation (Taxation) Law (2013 Revision), Public Management & Finance Law (2017 Revision), and Financial Regulations (Amendment) 2017 Policies, Procedures and Guidelines;
  • Review the receipting function that facilitates the collection and record keeping of all revenue.
  • Review tax submissions to ensure accuracy and field client questions, calculate assessments in absence of returns and raise surcharges; Communicate with client the rationale for charges based on the interpretation of existing laws;
  • On a daily basis, confirm the accuracy of all funds posted to the subsidiary ledger and IRIS General Ledger, ensuring that accurate daily deposits to the bank are made;
  • Prepare bi-weekly written correspondence to be sent to proprietors for outstanding charges and fees;
  • Assist the Revenue & Compliance Accountant, with responses to queries from property managers, government agencies/departments internal and external clients regarding revenue accounts;
  • Oversee the financial component of the department’s local promotional events.

Applicants should possess the following education, experience, attributes and skills:

  • Association of Accounting Technician or an Associate Degree in Accounting/Finance with 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment
  • In the absence of a Degree, High School Graduates with four O'Level/CXC passes and 5-7 years work experience in an accounting related field may also apply; 3 of the 5 years work experience should have been in an financial office environment, which operates within predetermined deadlines and procedures
  • Knowledge of International accounting standards and standard accounting practises followed within the CI Government, financial systems, and experience handling multi currencies
