We are accepting applications from suitably qualified Caymanians for the position of:

Public Relations and Education Officer

The post holder will be required to generate and maintain a high level of public awareness regarding all aspects of environmental health and solid waste matters by writing and disbursing press releases; developing and executing social media platforms; educational projects and events; and promoting environmental health activities, services and programmes both internally and externally. The post holder will also facilitate access to information held within the Department in accordance with the Freedom of Information (FOI) Law and provide efficient records management services in line with the National Archive and Public Records Law 2007.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Directing, promoting and coordinating all public relations and educational programmes related to environmental health and solid waste management matters such as: food safety; occupational hygiene and safety; waste reduction, reuse, recycling, recovering and disposal for all three islands to educate and increase the awareness of service groups, schools, businesses, the general public and employees.
  • Developing and implementing educational and promotional strategies to ensure public awareness and maximum public participation thereby increasing the quality of environmental health and rates of materials being reduced, reused, recycled, recovered and safely disposed.
  • Representing the Department at educational and promotional functions.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • The post holder must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years’ post-graduate experience in planning and implementing educational and promotional programmes, conferences and media relations is essential. The post holder must be competent in Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher.
  • The post holder must be competent in social media applications including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and YouTube.
  • The post holder must be competent in photography with some video experience.
  • Must be very confident in public relations and media presentations
  • Experience in providing training is essential.
  • A good understanding of Freedom of Information and Records Management is desirable.
  • The post holder should be able to communicate effectively, be a dynamic team member, have high ethical standards and display a flexible approach to work
  • Experience in a wide range of environmental health or similarly related programmes such as health and safety, solid waste management, and food hygiene is preferable.
