The Portfolio of the Civil Service is currently accepting applications, on behalf of the Legislative Assembly for the following post:

Parliamentary Security Officer

The post holder will assist the Serjeant-At-Arms of the Legislative Assembly in security matters within the Legislative Assembly, i.e., work related to securing the public gallery, committee rooms and common area of the Legislative Assembly, also referred to as the House and its precincts. The scope of the work falls under the categories of Security, Site Management, Emergency Management, and Supporting the Serjeant-At-Arms.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Serjeant-at-Arms in preserving order and security of the Legislative Assembly building, and its precincts;
  • Ensure the security of the galleries and lobbies of the Legislative Assembly building and under the direction of the Serjeant-at-Arms attend to any disturbances occurring within the building;
  • Under the direction of the Serjeant-at-Arms, responsible for the security of the Members within the precincts of the Legislative Assembly building;
  • The screening of visitors in and out of the building;
  • Monitoring of persons entering the precinct during House and Committee Meetings; and
  • Assist the Serjeant-at-Arms in escorting witnesses for hearings before Committees.

Candidates must have:

  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years relevant experience;
  • Proficiency in computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Standard;
  • Working knowledge of security and surveillance systems;
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to work on own initiative;
  • Must have own transportation, clean driving record, and valid driver’s license;
  • Must be a team player with a concern for accuracy, quality and timeliness with an interest in parliamentary practices, procedures and current affairs; and
  • Must be able to work under pressure.

It would be advantageous if the post holder possesses prior military service or is a former police officer, with skills and formal training as PPO (Personal Protection Officers)
