Applications are invited for the position of:

Transportation & Traffic Engineer

The primary role of the Transportation & Traffic Engineer is to work as part of the Transportation Planning Unit to provide traffic engineering expertise and higher-level transportation planning and traffic engineering proposals utilising the Cayman Islands Traffic Models to enhance the development, maintenance and quality of the National Roads Plan (NRP).

Principal Accountabilities: (see JD for full review of these)

  • Performs duties related to the evaluation and design of traffic safety improvements, traffic controls (signals, roundabouts, signing and striping), traffic studies, and roadway projects.
  • Performs transportation/traffic studies to evaluate and forecast road network needs. Evaluations of the road network include analysis of travel times, delays, traffic counts, travel speeds, collision data, origin & destination, capacity analysis, and other related measures of effectiveness.
  • Performs traffic studies of junctions (intersections and roundabouts) and high-friction areas distracting from roadway capacity to identify potential localized improvements.
  • Supervise and lead the NRAís annual traffic data collection exercise which includes ATR counts, turning movement counts, and a summary report of findings.

  • Job holder should possess a bachelorís degree in Civil Engineering with concentrations in traffic/transportation engineering and a minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly complex work experience. Alternately, a Masterís degree in the same fields with five (5) years experience.
  • A sound knowledge of transportation, traffic, safety and operations principles; specialist planning techniques and principles.
  • Proficiency in traffic operations and analysis software such as PTV VISUM / VISSIM (preferred), McTrans' HCS, SIDRA or similar software. Proficiency in CAD software, GIS and Project Management is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of travel demand modeling software and traffic analysis operations modeling software including the ability to perform scenario management and develop future traffic volume maps is desirable.
  • Knowledge of land use development processes and environmental practices.
  • Expertise in roadway design features including, roadway geometry, lane configurations, traffic signals, signal control, signage and markings.

The NRA offers an excellent compensation package, including pension and health insurance. Salary range for this position is CI$59,485 to CI$84,911 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
