We invite applicants for the following vacancy at Radio Cayman:

News & Sports Reporter II

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Qualifications: A degree or diploma in Broadcast Journalism or Mass Communications with broadcast emphasis and 2 years-experience in news and sports reporting or a minimum of five years experience in news and sports reporting.

Experience & Skills: Must have strong writing and organizational skills, a high level of IT skills, particularly word processing, data handling and digital editing. Must be well versed in various sports, have a high awareness of current affairs and have good technical ability and comprehension skills. Must have a good speaking voice and good manual and mental dexterity. Must be able to remain positive during challenging situations. Must have the ability to work independently, but also as part of a team and must be flexible regarding shifts. Must have determination, diplomacy and excellent interpersonal skills. Must have a thorough knowledge of the law and ethics, as they relate to the practice of journalism. Must be able to maintain objectivity in order to be fair and balanced in the treatment of news stories.

Main Duties

The successful applicant will be required to contribute to Radio Cayman’s sports, news and current affairs programmes. This will involve:

  • Research, write and produce news and sports stories- making sure that they are factual, concise and interesting.
  • Plan and implement follow–up procedures for news stories, where necessary.
  • Provide live coverage of current events and sports.
  • Read news live on air
