Director, Public Works Department

The Director of the Public Works Department (PWD) is directly responsible for planning, controlling and directing the operations of PWD’s divisions, sections and units to ensure the provision of comprehensive, high quality services in a cost effective, timely, transparent manner with a strong customer service.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

The post holder should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the applied sciences related to construction/construction management, such as civil engineering, quantity surveying, architecture or construction management. Additionally, the post holder must be a registered, professional member of his/her discipline established either in the UK, US or Canada. The post holder will be a seasoned professional possessing a minimum of 15 years’ post graduate experience in his field of expertise. At least 5 of these should be in a position managing an organisation of similar nature and scale as PWD. The post holder will also be able to demonstrate significant experience managing major projects with experience in Public Private Partnership (P3) project delivery being an asset.

Skills:

The post-holder must have:

  • Proven project management skills, a solid understanding of building methods and significant experience in facilities management.
  • A broad knowledge in all matters relating to the built environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees at all levels. An analytical mind and the ability to think ‘outside the box’ to solve unprecedented problems the impact of which is often not seen until in the future.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels, within Government and the community as a whole.
  • A self-motivated team player able to work with broad policy guidance and act on his/her own initiative and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Bring a strong ethical and professional approach to the conduct of business affairs.

Caymanians will be placed on a permanent employment contract & Non-Caymanians will be placed on a fixed term contract for three (3) years
