Applications are invited for the position of:

Transportation & Traffic Engineer

The primary role of the Transportation & Traffic Engineer is to work as part of the Transportation Planning Unit to provide traffic engineering expertise and higher-level transportation planning and traffic engineering proposals utilising the Cayman Islands Traffic Models to enhance the development, maintenance and quality of the National Roads Plan (NRP). Each applicant will be required to complete a pre-qualifier recruitment questionnaire.

Principal Accountabilities: (see JD for full review of these)

  • Performs relevant transportation/traffic studies to evaluate and forecast road network needs of a dynamic island-environment with substantial urban development activities. Devise and implement methods and tools for the evaluation of the road network metrics including analysis of travel times, delays, traffic counts, travel speeds, collision data, origin & destination, capacity analysis, and other related measures of effectiveness.
  • Performs traffic studies of intersection (signalized and roundabouts) and high-friction corridor areas distracting from roadway capacity to identify potential localized improvements.
  • Performs duties related to the evaluation and design of traffic safety improvements, traffic controls (signals, roundabouts, signing and striping), traffic studies, and roadway projects.
  • Supervises and leads the NRA’s annual traffic data collection exercise which includes ATR counts, turning movement counts, and a summary report of findings.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills: (see JD for full review of these)

  • Job holder must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with concentrations in traffic engineering from an accredited college, university, or engineering school approved by a Board of Registration for Professional Engineers along with a minimum of ten (10) years work experience.
  • Alternately, a Master’s degree in the same fields with a minimum of five (5) years experience.
  • Extensive and relevant experience with the traffic modeling software PTV VISSIM (Version 11) is required; with proficiency of PTV VISUM (version 18) and PTV Vistro 7 being preferred.
  • Having experience with the analysis software of SIDRA Intersection or similar software would also be valuable asset skills to the organization. Proficiency in CAD software, ESRI’s ArcGIS and Project Management is also desirable.
  • Knowledge of land use development processes and environmental practices.
  • Expertise in roadway design features including, roadway geometry, lane configurations, traffic signals, signal control, signage and markings.

The NRA offers an excellent compensation package, including pension and health insurance. Salary range for this position is CI$59,485 to CI$84,911 | US $70,815 – US $101,048 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
