One Migrant on the Run
Four of the remaining five Cuban migrants who were at large, are back in custody, Immigration Department officials report.
The migrants who were apprehended last night (8 August) were among 23 who escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) on Thursday night (7 August). Sixteen migrants were recaptured and one turned himself in shortly after the break out.
Acting Chief Immigration Officer Kerry Nixon thanked immigration officers and members of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) for their hard work which led to the recapture of the men.
The one migrant still on the run is 27-year-old Raylan Rodriquez Ramos.
Immigration officials continue to urge persons to be on the look out for the remaining migrant and reminds the public that assisting an escaped migrant is an offence attracting penalties of up to $50,000 and imprisonment of up to seven years.
