Cabinet has authorised the Cayman Islands Airports Authority to charge a $13 facilities fee for each passenger aboard aircraft departing the Islands.
Authorisation to charge the fees is in the Airports Authority (Charges) Regulations, 2008, published on 4 August in supplement no. 6 to the Cayman Islands Gazette, no. 16.
This charge does not apply to outbound travellers who are two years old or younger. It also does not apply to aircraft crew.
Signed in July by CIAA's Acting CEO Fred Sambula, the regulations stipulate that the aircraft owner must pay the fees within 10 days of the last day of the month, or pay a fine five times the overdue facilities charge.
Failure to pay the overdue charges is an offence, and makes the aircraft owner liable on summary conviction to a fine of $5,000 and to imprisonment for six months.
