GIS Spotlight Features an Immigration Revolution

(NOTE: The links will take you to GIS Spotlight's YouTube site where you can see the segments from this week's show!)

This week GIS Spotlight takes a look at an immigration revolution, and notes the widespread recognition accorded our two international airports. Also, watch this week's Senior Salute before riding along on an exceptional school field trip.

The way work permits are approved will change drastically with the new Administrative Grant System which will see Immigration Department staff processing non-controversial work permits on a daily basis.

GIS Spotlight talks to senior Immigration officials to find out what the scheme will mean for the Work Permit Board, residents and business owners.

Next, we congratulate our two international airports for receiving their Airport Certification from the local regulatory body, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI).

Find out why this is important to investors and tourists alike. Plus, be there as we talk to Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Airports Authority, Fred Sambula, about what this certification means. Learn about the message it sends to the international aviation community about our compliance with global best practices and internationally accepted standards.

Then it's time to salute an outstanding senior citizen -- Mrs Sybil McLaughlin. We talk to her about becoming one of Cayman's National Heroes, her former role in the Legislative Assembly and her other life accomplishments.

Finally, climb onboard for an extraordinary school field trip. GIS Spotlight joins George Town Primary School students as they get up close and personal with Cayman's mangroves.

Come learn with them why it is important to protect these unique trees, note how they function and which creatures can be found there.

Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government's services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.

The weekly programme airs on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. on Cayman27, and again on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. on Island24. Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing heather.hopson@gov.ky.
