DAPAH New Communications Manager

Sandra Tomlinson, Manager Communication & Public Affairs, Ministry of DAPA&H

The Ministry of District Administration, Planning, Agriculture & Housing (DAPA&H), has hired a new Manager of Communications & Public Affairs, Sandra Tomlinson.

Ms. Tomlinson is Caymanian, with a Bachelorís degree in Psychology from Stetson University. Along with her earlier work experience in Counselling, she brings with her several yearsí experience in Media Relations. Since her return home from the academic arena ten years ago, she has worked within the Public and Private Sectors in a wide range of fields, an experience which she attributes to making her a more well-rounded individual.

Initially, Ms. Tomlinson began work with the Cayman Islands Government in 1998 as a Counsellor with the Cayman Counselling Centre. During that time, she also volunteered regularly with Radio Cayman as an Announcer. She later decided to pursue the creative field of media on a fulltime basis and became a Reporter and Anchor with Cayman 27 News. In 2005, Ms. Tomlinson returned to Government and joined the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry as Assistant Registrar during the agencyís transition to a Government Statutory Authority, now the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands.

Since that time, Ms. Tomlinson has run her own media business for a year and half. Earlier this year, she assisted a small start-up business by way of management and marketing. However, she has now found herself drawn back to employment with the Cayman Islands Government, and as such, she is again on familiar ground as Manager of Communications & Public Affairs for the Ministry of DAPA&H. Ms. Tomlinson states, "I feel I have found the perfect combination of work within the position at the Ministry of DAPAH. Not only does my job involve the creativity of Communications through descriptive writing, speech-reporting and networking in general, it also entails the responsibility of working for the People of the Cayman Islands, a duty which I am proud to take on."

As Manager of Communications & Public Affairs, Ms. Tomlinson will act as the liaison with Caymanís media houses on behalf of each of the Departments under the Ministry of DAPA&H. These departments include Agriculture, District Administration, Government Office Accommodation Project, Lands & Survey, Mosquito Research & Control Unit, National Housing & Development Trust, Petroleum Inspectorate Office, Planning, and the Sister Islands Affordable Housing Development Corp. Her functions also include contributions to the Ministerís statements, as well as spear-heading projects which disseminate information from the Ministry of DAPA&H to other Government agencies and the Public.
