GIS Spotlight on Productive Prisoners
This week join GIS Spotlight as we take you beyond the security fence of HM Northward Prison to see how inmates are building their own future. Then tune in to the five steps involved in making a good Freedom of Information request, before sharing the secrets of successful bird watching.
Sitting idly behind bars waiting out sentences is a thing of the past for Northward inmates. A new work programme has them serving purposeful time: Those with construction skills are leading teams of builders to add new prison facilities, including a gymnasium, a vocational training centre and a health clinic.
Hear from inmates how this work programme and other prison educational initiatives are not only changing their surroundings, but also adding direction, confidence, and a sense of self worth to their lives.
Next, we focus on Cayman's Freedom of Information Law which came into effect last week (Monday, 5 January). Check out the easy five step process needed to make a request for government information.
Then join us for our weekly Cayman Quiz: What do you know about bird watching?
To find out more, we take a drive to the Governor Michael Gore Bird Sanctuary in Savannah-Newlands where we'll join an expert from the National Trust for all the answers.
Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government's services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.
The weekly programme airs on Mondays at 6:30pm on Cayman27, and again on Thursdays at 7:30pm on Island24. Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org .
