National Drug Court Month

This May, Drug Courts in the United States will be hosting various events to honour National Drug Court Month. Here in the Cayman Islands, Drug Rehabilitation Court (DRC) officials will use the month to launch a public awareness and education campaign aimed at promoting the court's work.

Friday, 15 May, will be observed as National Drug Court Day under the theme Boundaries that Restore.

The Drug Rehabilitation Court, which started in October 2007, signalled a new approach to dealing with non-violent, substance abusing offenders within the criminal justice system.

The main goal of this specialised court is to stop drug abuse and related criminal activity of offenders through court-directed treatment and rehabilitation services. A team of specialised professionals administer the work of the Drug Court under the supervision of the court.

Media outlets are invited to contact Drug Rehabilitation Court Coordinator Catherine Chesnut on 949-4296 ext. 3840 or at Catherine.Chesnut@gov.ky to arrange appearances by Drug Court team members or for interviews. Press packs are also available on request.
