Truck Boosts Veterinary Services

Department of Agriculture (DoA) Veterinary Officer Dr Colin Wakelin (left), receives the keys for a modified 2009 Ford Ranger from Agriculture Minister, the Hon. Juliana O'Connor-Connolly.

Thanks to a new 2009 Ford Ranger, the Department of Agriculture's (DoA) Veterinary Services Unit is once again able to offer local farmers more reliable service.

Keys to the truck were recently handed over by District Administration, Works and Gender Affairs Minister, the Hon. Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, JP. The truck, which was purchased and modified for veterinary purposes by the Department of Vehicle and Equipment Services for a total of $23,700, replaces an older vehicle and returns the unit's fleet of three back to its full complement.

"We're happy to have it," said Veterinary Officer Dr Colin Wakelin. "Greater vehicle availability will make it a lot easier to respond when farmers call us for assistance."

Farmers needing emergency veterinary services may call 916-2218 between 5pm and 8:30am daily, and 947-3090 during regular business hours.
