Diagnostic Services Increase

At the opening of KY Imaging, Health Minister Mark Scotland (centre) stands by an Open MRI Machine with Managing Director Rebecca Smith and Partner and Radiologist Dr. Dennis Rossi.

Minister of Health, Environment, Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mark Scotland officially opened the KY Imaging Diagnostic Centre at West Shore Plaza, West Bay Road on Thursday (15 October).

The centre will offer a range of medical diagnostic services including Open MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imagining); MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography); cat scans; x-ray with fluoroscopy and bone density testing. These procedures are crucial in detecting serious health issues such as tumours and internal injuries.

Congratulating Managing Director Rebecca Smith and her team, Minister Scotland said the centre was a positive development for Cayman's health sector. "This state-of-the-art facility is a boost for the Islands' health system in terms of extending the range and quality of services available locally and in containing costs," he said.

Mr. Scotland noted that KY Imaging would further reduce the need for persons to go off-island for equivalent services and the facility will widen access to world class diagnostic testing.

Ms Smith explained that the centre is partnering with a number of overseas consultants including expert radiologist Dr. Dennis Rossi and Dr. Gary Starkman, the visiting neurologist and pain management specialist.

She added that the centre will offer a 24-hour turn-around time for reports.

Dr. Rossi noted that the facility will complement the already high standard of medical care in Cayman.

MLA Ezzard Miller, who chaired the function, also congratulated the owners. He hailed in particular, Ms Smith for her commitment to investing in Cayman's medical sector.
