The Hon. McKeeva Bush becomes the country's first premier on Friday.

The public is advised that the Commencement Day ceremony will take place at the Legislative Assembly this Friday, 6 November.

The formal proceedings mark the commencement of the new Constitution and will include the swearing-in of the Premier, the Deputy Premier and the Deputy Governor.

The event starts at 10:30 a.m. and members of the public planning to attend are asked to be seated at least ten to fifteen minutes prior.

The morning's programme includes performances from the Cayman National Choir, the Harmony Singers, Rudy Myles who will sing 'No Man is an Island' and Jamessette Anglin (the National Song).

Other participants will be the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Band and the George Hicks Campus Band, as well as detachments from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Fire Service, Her Majesty's Prison Service, the Cadet Corps, the Girls Brigade, the Scouts, and the Gideon Pathfinders.

Refreshments will be served free of charge to the public at the close of the event.

The commencement ceremony will be followed by an invitation-only luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton.

As the inaugural day of the 2009 Cayman Islands Constitution, Friday has been declared a public holiday (for this year only).
