Crime Under the Microscope
Next week GIS Spotlight investigates the crime-fighting powers of Cayman's newly accredited DNA lab; next we fly away with Boatswain's Beach pigeons and finally, we salute an exceptional - and very busy - senior citizen.
It is not CSI Cayman, but it does come close. With the Health Services Authority's DNA/Forensic laboratory international forensic accreditation finally in place, police will now be able to draw more readily on its services when investigating crimes.
Soak up the details as we talk to Forensic/DNA Specialist Jonathan Faris about the laboratory's capacity for intricate DNA analysis and learn how crime scene samples are tested. He also lists the benefits of having internationally accredited laboratory in the English speaking Caribbean.
Cayman' wild pigeon population is under pressure, and the Boatswain's Beach Aviary staff members have decided to help out.
Join us as we visit their unique breeding programme. Also, hear what makes these wild pigeons special and why the population is shrinking. You'll find out a host of interesting facts about this shy game bird.
This year's theme for Older Person's Month - Happy, Healthy Seniors: Creating a Society for all Ages - was chosen to remind people that seniors have much to contribute to the community.
So, come with us and meet an exceptional Pines Retirement Home resident, one who is living her "second childhood" through her tireless volunteer work.
Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government's services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.
The weekly programme airs on Mondays at 6:30 pm on Cayman27, and again on Thursdays at 7:30 pm on Island24. All the stories seen in this week's edition can also be found on YouTube at the following link: GIS YouTube Channel.
