Meeting George Towners

The Governor and Mrs. Taylor get a Scranton welcome from GTPS grade four student Kasey Edwards, introduced by Community Development Coordinator Zemrie Thompson.

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, and Mrs. Marie-Beatrice Taylor experienced George Town hospitality first-hand during home visits to district residents last week (Wednesday, 27 January).

Escorting the Taylors were George Town representatives Minister for Community Affairs and Housing the Hon. Mike Adam, MBE, JP, Leader of the Opposition the Hon. Kurt Tibbetts, JP, and MLA Ellio Solomon.

First stop on the tour was a Watler's Road home where Mr. and Mrs. Taylor chatted with Verna Valle (85), Nora Ebanks and Corinna McLean who shared their reminiscences about growing up in Cayman.

Next it was off to the heart of Scranton in central George Town to socialise with a group led by Maryann Frances Ramoon (91) and including Viola Stewart, Adina Delida Seymour and Maisie Ebanks. George Town Primary's Grade Four student Kasey Edwards was also on hand to welcome the Taylors.

A drive to Georgette Ebanks' (83) Windsor Park home followed and there, the visitors viewed family photographs and learnt a little about her life and accomplishments, including her two-decade stint with the postal service.

The Taylors rounded off their George Town tour with a call at the home of South Church Street residents Mr. Brainard and Mrs. Mazie Watler.
