New Police on the Block

RCIPS police recruits.

This week GIS Spotlight steps out with the new police recruits; we explore how learning unlocks the future for prisoners; and finally, we give you a sampler of Taste of Cayman 2010.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has just welcomed their newest recruits, who completed a gruelling 14-week training programme.

Join us as we follow three young Caymanians on their journey to become police officers. They explain what skills they acquired, but more importantly they share how the training has shaped their convictions about the value of serving the public.

Also, we speak to Police Commissioner David Baines on the challenges the RCIPS face, as well as the characteristics of a good police service.

Next, we visit Northward Prison to celebrate with inmates, as they mark their academic achievements. Hear firsthand from prisoners how learning is changing their lives.

Then it's time for dessert! Tune in for a sneak peek of this year's Taste of Cayman, and find out how you can make the most out of Cayman's favourite food and wine festival.

Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government's services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.

The weekly programme airs on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. on Cayman27, and again on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. on Island24.

All the stories seen in this week's edition can also be found on YouTube at www.youtube.com/user/CIGovtInfoServices.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing heather.hopson@gov.ky.
