Five persons were arrested on Sunday, 14 February after they handed in items intended for inmates at Northward Prison.
During a special operation at the compound, suspected contraband was detected during five separate incidents. Vegetable matter resembling ganja was concealed in goods destined for Northward inmates.
As a result of the finds, the Royal Cayman Islands Police (RCIPS) were notified and two male and three female civilians were arrested.
The prison policy allows certain amounts of specific hand-ins, ranging from hygiene items to magazines, to be delivered to the prison for use by inmates. All goods are received and processed by prison staff.
Prison and RCIPS officials are continuing their investigations into the matter.
