The Friends of Cayman in London hosted an event at the House of Commons, Westminster on Thursday 18 March to raise funds for Cayman Islands athletes who will be attending the Island Games, to be held in the Isle of Wight in summer 2011.

Richard Parchment, Chairman of the Cayman Islands Island Games Association, offered his words of thanks to the 'Friends Group' and spoke to the uniqueness of the Islands Games. "It is the only multi-sport Games that the Cayman Islands participates in, where Caymanians and residents can compete side by side for the Cayman Islands."

It is anticipated that Cayman will field teams from Athletics, Basketball, Golf, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Tennis and Volleyball. Other interested sports disciplines at these Games are Squash, Windsurfing, Badminton, and Cycling.

Also commenting after the event, the principal organizer, former Governor, Mr. John Owen, said, "This has been a most successful evening. The amount of money raised has exceeded my expectations and I am most grateful to all the Friends of Cayman and their guests, who so generously supported this event."

Mr. Owen is seen here handing over a cheque for approximately CI $22,000 to the Association for the 2011 Games, which will be held in the Isle of Wight.
