Brac Landfill Fire

Crews from both the Fire Services and the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) are currently working to contain a fire at the Cayman Brac landfill which began yesterday (Sunday 27June).

Deputy Premier and Minister of District Administration, Works and Gender Affairs the Hon. Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, JP; Chief Officer Kearney Gomez and DEH Director Roydell Carter have visited the scene to view the containment efforts.

DEH and Fire Services officials confirm that the fire started around 4p.m. Sunday afternoon in the scrap metal/ derelict vehicle section of the landfill. The Fire Services responded and the blaze was contained by 6p.m. that evening.

Unfortunately, it rekindled a short time later and crews have been working to extinguish it since.

DEH Director Roydell Carter is monitoring the situation and updates will be provided.
