Obesity a Family Affair
In its fight against childhood obesity, the Ministry of Health, Environment, Youth, Sports and Culture has partnered with a local non-governmental organisation, AMF Partners, to air The Biggest Generation.
This is the second programme in a two-part series which highlights the rapidly-growing problem of childhood obesity.
"The sad reality is that overweight children face the same health problems as overweight adults-high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems and high cholesterol. Moreover, overweight children are far more likely to experience sadness, loneliness and nervousness.
"To my mind, these provide more than enough compelling reasons to take a stand against unhealthy choices. Parents who want to change can start by watching The Biggest Generation," said Minister of Health the Hon. Mark Scotland.
The programme focuses on how parents can get kids excited about family exercise time. It also shows how schools can be part of the solution by banishing unhealthy snack options and offering fun physical activities.
In addition, The Biggest Generation is inspirational as it shows how a group of youngsters takes charge of their health by combatting school lunches and vending machines.
The Biggest Generation will air on Monday, 7 June at 7:30 p.m. on Island24 and again on Tuesday, 8 June at 6:30 p.m. on Cayman27.
