This summer, hundreds of Grand Cayman's youngsters will once again enjoy an active holiday by attending one of several free sports camps sponsored by the Ministry of Sports.

"One of the foremost goals of my ministry is to ensure the long-term health of Cayman's children and our annual summer sport camp programme is integral to the promotion of healthy lifestyles," explained Sports Minister the Hon. Mark Scotland.

Reinforcing his vision of getting all children involved, the Minister added, "Physical activity is healthy, but sports discipline gives our children even more. By spending the summer playing basketball or football, our youngsters will also find the motivation to excel in other areas in their lives."

Many of the camps result from a growing partnership between the Ministry of Sports and several non-governmental organizations. They promote several sports including netball, basketball, track and field and football.

"We thank all the volunteers and local companies that help to make the camps a reality, and we hope to see this programme expand further in coming years," Minister Scotland said.

The sports camp schedule is available at www.departmentofsports.com. Parents can also sign up for the Department of Sports' email alerts for events and camp dates.
