Key Constitutional Appointment

New Judicial and Legal Services Commission Chairman Dan Scott.

After consultation with the Hon. Premier and the Leader of the Opposition, His Excellency the Governor Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Dan Scott as the Chairman of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission.

Dan Scott is the Regional Managing Partner and Asset Management Sector Leader for the Bahamas, Bermuda and Cayman Islands region of Ernst & Young's Financial Services Office. He is also a member of the Ernst & Young Global Hedge Fund Steering Committee, which provides strategic direction to the global practice.

Mr. Scott has been with the company for more than 25 years; among his area of focus are audit and advisory services, including structuring and servicing complex global and offshore funds.

Mr. Scott received a B.S. in accounting from the University of Tampa. He is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is currently a Board Member of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange and also a Member of the Cayman Islands National Security Council. He is a past President of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants.

Mr. Scott will chair a Commission consisting of seven members whose names will be announced shortly.

The role of the Commission includes advising the Governor on appointments of the Chief Justice, Judges of the Grand Court; the President of the Court of Appeal, Judges of the Court of Appeal, the Attorney General, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Magistrates and other offices in the public service, which require a legal qualification. His role also involves advising the Governor on disciplinary matters relating to persons in these offices, should there be a need.
