Food handlers can obtain certification.

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is reminding all food vendors that food handlers' certifications need to be valid, especially for Pirates Week in November.

Food handlers' certification is valid for three years. If expired, vendors need to retake the food handlers' training course. Also, all new vendors need to be certified by the department.

Extra courses have been added to the training schedule and interested persons should contact the department to reserve their space.

Course dates are as listed below:

  • 27 October

  • 3 November
  • 10 November
  • 24 November
  • 8 December

Each session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the DEH conference room in the CI Environmental Centre at 580 North Sound Road.

A registration cost of $15 per person covers all materials, and fees should be paid at DEH headquarters, also at 580 North Sound Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Basic food handlers' training will equip participants with sufficient knowledge to prevent food-borne illness and the spread of food-borne pathogens.
