Premier Calls on Bellingham

Premier Bush is currently attending the 12th annual OTCC meeting.

The Minister for the Overseas Territories, Henry Bellingham MP, met the Hon. McKeeva Bush OBE, Premier of the Cayman Islands and Minister of Finance, Tourism & Development for bilateral discussions on 16 November, prior to the annual Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC), which the Minister is hosting today.

The Minister and the Premier discussed a range of issues of mutual interest and concern, including progress on implementing commitments to reduce expenditure within the Cayman Islands Government's three year budget plan; and the importance of maintaining Cayman's high standing and international reputation. The Minister congratulated the Premier on Cayman's success in achieving the standards of the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention, noting that it is the first Overseas Territory to have this Convention extended to them.

Minister Bellingham said: "The Premier and I had a useful meeting and agreed on a timeframe for the development of a Framework for Fiscal Responsibility to embed fiscal discipline. I was interested to hear the Premier's plans to implement savings through a review of the public service, and look forward to continuing our discussions at the OTCC tomorrow".

This was the UK minister's second meeting with the Premier; They last met on 8 June. This year's Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) is being attended by eight territory leaders, including all those from the Caribbean and Bermuda, with the exception of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
