The Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing will disburse some CI$200,000 in Christmas bonus payments to seamen, veterans, and clients of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) who receive permanent financial assistance.
Minister of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing the Hon. Mike Adam, MBE, JP, said: "The majority of this group is older persons who are dependant on others for their care. This is the Government's effort to supplement the funds that we provide monthly to the elderly as well as that which they receive from family and other source."
With the on-going financial constraints each of the recipients will receive $100, which is the same amount as last year.
"Our greatest wish is that we could have given more to each person, but we are simply unable to at this time," Minister Adam said.
The Minister observed that the amount still represents a significant dip into the Ministry's budget, adding: "We hope it can assist our seamen, veterans, and the less fortunate in our community, in some way this season."
The Minister and his staff at the Ministry wish all recipients and their families a blessed Christmas and New Year.
