An Agricultural Peek
Members of the public got a taste of what to expect at the upcoming 2011 Agriculture Show during a soft launch staged the market at the grounds on Saturday (February 19).
Market vendors provided patrons who attended with a glimpse of the type and quality of produce, food and craft products they can expect to find at the show.
Billed as a Taste of the Ag Show, the soft launch for the 44th Annual Agriculture Society Show, scheduled for Ash Wednesday (9 March) at the Agricultural Show Grounds, provided an opportunity for the public to learn more about the events planned for the show.
Minister of District Administration, Works, Lands and Agriculture the Hon. Juliana O'Connor-Connolly, JP was on hand to encourage people to attend the main event. She likewise took the opportunity to invite additional sponsors to come on board.
"Agriculture is alive and well in the Cayman Islands and we as a community must do our best to support our farmers and artisans.
"Our annual show is truly a staple on the local scene and represents the best of our local creativity. I therefore encourage the local business community to be supportive," the minister said.
President of the Cayman Islands Agriculture Society Errol Watler thanked sponsors who were already committed (including Kirk Supermarket and Pharmacy; LIME; DMS Broadcasting and AL Thompson) noting that their support comprised a valuable element in staging the event.
Kirk Supermarket's Marketing Manager Rosalind Robinson said that the company was pleased to be associated with the Agriculture Show.
"We are avid supporters of local farmers in that we purchase local agricultural products from them on an ongoing basis. Being a part of the Agriculture Show is therefore a natural synergy," she explained.
