Happy Birthday Marine Parks

DOE staffer Joni Kirkconnell shares some lionfish facts with a young supporter.

This week (Monday, 30 May) GIS Spotlight joins the conservation celebration at a marine parks open house, visits the latest National Gallery exhibition and takes a closer look at mechanics at the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC).

Cayman's marine parks turned 25 this year. We join Department of Environment staff as they celebrate with a marine parks open house. Learn more about the department's work and the importance of the country's conservation efforts.

Next, we take a trip down memory lane with the National Gallery's Persistence of Memory exhibition. See how local artists bring their childhood reminiscences to life through using archival materials, multi-media and the fine arts.

Our last stop is the CIFEC where vocational training puts students in the driver's seat with such courses as automotive repair and maintenance. Hear what students learn, how they benefit and how even the girls are taking to it!

Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government's services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.

The weekly programme now airs on Cayman27 at 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays. All stories seen in this week's show can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing GIS Spotlight.
