Congrats to Fraser Duo
Minister for Sports the Hon. Mark Scotland congratulated the Fraser brothers as the pair made international headlines this week after their tour de force at the Pan Am Games in Mexico.
Sharing the podium, Brett won the 200m freestyle race with Shaune pocketing a silver medal in the same race, a feat a Reuters headliner ( More to Cayman Swimmers than Snorkelling) called "remarkable".
At a medalists' press conference Brett said it was a great moment for the Cayman Islands: "It feels spectacular. I still can't believe what just happened. My brother and I are very happy because we shared the podium, he's always been an example to follow."
Shaune also weighed in, revealing the friendly rivalry that is taking them to the top: "This is my second Pan American medal. My brother and I talked about making the 1-2, no matter in what order. In the pool, it is a competition between us both. Outside the pool we get along great. This is the second time he has beaten me."
Minister for Sports the Hon. Mark Scotland applauded the Fraser brothers for their tremendous achievement.
"These two champions started their swimming career in a 25 m pool. But never did they use it as an excuse not to reach the top. They have steadily worked their way up without sacrificing their academic careers. They are truly worthy examples of how hard work and dedication can pay off," the Minister said.
Shaune has been a Cayman Islands Elite Athlete since 2010, and Brett became an Elite Athlete this year. They have represented the Cayman Islands at the Beijing Summer Games 2008 and now have their sights firmly set on the 2012 London Olympics.
