On Spotlight: Growing Human Capital
This week (Monday, 7 November) GIS Spotlight consolidates human resources, takes you to space and brings children to the sea.
While jobs may be available, they serve little purpose to locals who cannot fill them. Find out what government is doing to bridge that gap.
First, we stop at the Human Capital Development Agency now tasked with strategically building a trained Caymanian workforce. Learn about the approach underway to match employees' existing skills to suitable jobs and retool those in jobs to climb higher. Hear how the comprehensive action will also involve scholarships and statistics to inform employment strategies.
Next, discover how your future can also include outer space. Join us at the University College of the Cayman Islands where a home for a donated telescope is being built and learn how you can be a part of this new horizon.
Hear plans to use the optical instrument for science and astronomy lessons for both students and the whole community.
Finally, see how children are getting linked to Cayman's maritime heritage. Visit a sailing programme that uses a fun and wholesome environment to teach school students skills while building muscles and character.
Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government's services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.
The weekly programme now airs on Cayman27 at 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays. All stories seen in this week's show can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.
