Honouring Sportsmen

Three of Cayman's star athletes - swimmers Shaune and Brett Fraser and jet skier Jordan

This week (Monday, 16 January) GIS Spotlight hits an athletic high note, brings you a milestone graduation and revisits soothing pet therapy.

Three of Cayman's brightest sporting stars, the Fraser brothers Shaune and Brett, and Jordan "JJ" McLean, have catapulted the Islands into new realms of international achievement.

Join us in Government's celebration to honour the triumphs of the swimming super-duo and the world champion jet skier, accomplishments that are true testaments to what a small island nation can produce. Be inspired by what motivates these role models and who they venerate for their successes.

Next, we take you to the first graduation of the Civil Service College. Applaud five civil servants who secured Associate degrees through the University College of the Cayman Islands and 11 Fire Service, Police, Civil Service and Cadet Corps personnel who earned diplomas from the Institute of Leadership and Management, UK.

Learn what it took to juggle full time jobs and families with the demands of further education in their quest for personal growth. Hear from a civil servant who successfully went through that process and has now attained the position of Deputy Governor.

Finally, it's off again to the Lighthouse School where man's best friend shows us yet again how he earned the title. We meet the rescue-trained Border Collie Murphy who provides a new approach to therapy for special-needs individuals.

Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.

The weekly programme now airs on Cayman27 at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 7.30 p.m. on Thursdays. All stories seen in this week's show can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing GIS Spotlight.
