Public Recognition

A new Cayman Islands National Hero, the late Mr. Warren Connolly, OBE, JP, will top several categories of persons being formally recognised during this year's National Heroes Day celebrations on Monday, 23 January.

The work of outstanding citizens will also be acknowledged by presentations of Order of the Cayman Islands medals and the Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour.

Respect is being paid by way of various awards, tributes and entertainment at the event in Heroes Square, George Town. Attendees should be seated by 9:30 a.m.; pre-event entertainment begins at 9:00 a.m.

This year's National Heroes Day especially honours education pioneers. Over 60 are being lauded for significant contributions to this area.

This is the second year that Order of the Cayman Islands medals will be presented. Recipients are being recognised for service in diverse areas, from shipping and medicine to music and sports. Four long-serving civil servants are also being recognised.

Local food and an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of Cayman's stalwarts follow the ceremony.

Motorists are advised that, in preparation for this event, the area surrounding Heroes Square will be closed from 6 p.m., Friday, 20 January until 6:00 pm Monday, 23 January. These include some areas of Fort Street, Edward Street, Albert Panton Street and Cardinal Avenue.
