UK Minister Discusses Procurement
UK Minister for Africa, the United Nations, Overseas Territories and Conflict Issues, Mr. Henry Bellingham, MP, discussed government procurement policies and practices during a round table meeting this morning (Friday, 20 April) with Commission for Standards in Public Life (CSPL) members, government leaders and officials.
The meeting, held at Government Administration Building, reflected the importance that the UK Government places on the Overseas Territories practising proper procurement in all major government projects.
Addressing members of the public at a reception hosted by the Premier at Pedro St. James on Thursday evening (19 April), Minister Bellingham had reiterated the UK Government's expectation of good governance in action in the OTs, including proper checks and balances in place when dealing with budgets and procurement. "We are keen to see responsible, fiscal, financial management," the Minister said. "In this very tough global environment, we all must try and live within our means."
At Friday's meeting, His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE and the Premier, the Hon. W. McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP, headed the government group which also included the Deputy Governor, the Hon. Franz Manderson, Cert.Hon, JP; Financial Secretary Mr. Kenneth Jefferson; Head of the Premier's Office, Mr. Leonard Dilbert and Portfolio of Internal and External Affairs Strategic Adviser, Mr. Peter Gough.
Also attending were Auditor General, Mr. Alastair Swarbrick and Chair of the Central Tenders Committee, Mr. Nick Freeland.
CSPL members present were Mr. Roy McTaggart, Pastor Winston Rose, Mrs. Nyda Mae Flatley and Mr. Hedley Robinson.
