Feeding Young Families
Nourishing the mind and body is a top priority for Department of Counselling Services' Family Resource Centre (FRC.
Knowing that healthy eating is essential to families, owners of Curves, Robert Musselwhite and wife Diane, recently organized a food drive whereby members were asked to contribute non-perishable food and baby items in exchange for paying a registration fee. Curves organizes an annual food drive and this year selected the Family Resource Centre as the beneficiary of its members' generous donations.
"We were overjoyed at the great response as resources are often quite limited. This will allow us to create a pantry that young parents and families will benefit from when accessing our services," FRC Programme Coordinator, Miriam Foster.
The items donated will go towards FRC's Young Parent Services (YPS) where parents and their children can enjoy a nourishing meal. Held at the centre, YPS is a special programme dedicated to young moms and dads working on parenting and employability skills. The programme will help build positive parenting skills, attitudes and behaviours so kids can get a head start in life.
