Spotlight on Statistics

Caribbean Statistics Day is celebrated Monday, 15 October.

The week starting Monday, 15 October, GIS Spotlight underscores the value of statistics, reminds you to keep cell phones out of your hands when driving and revisits fathers in Cayman.

You might wonder if a bunch of numbers staring back at you from a spread sheet can impact your life. Join us to learn exactly how and why numbers matter.

See how CARICOM is leading appreciation with a region-wide celebration of statistics. Hear about activities by the Economics and Statistics Office to keep the focus on the data they gather in a number of ways.

After that, it's time for a reality check. Are you still holding your cell phone to your ear to talk, or worse, taking your eyes of the road to text while you drive? Remember, you are breaking the law now each time you do that. However, hear from RCIPS officers how, if you follow the rules, you can still talk and drive.

Next, it's time for fathers in the community. Join us as we stop at the Family Resource Centre to put Fathers First. Discover how this powerful six-week workshop targets fathers and provides them with better parenting skills. Hear emotional stories and see how the workshop's success has triggered more in the future.

Produced by GIS Marketing and Communications, GIS Spotlight highlights government's services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you.

The weekly programme airs Monday on Cayman27 at 11 p.m. and on Saturday, 20 October at 6 p.m.

All stories seen in the week's GIS Spotlight can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing GIS Spotlight.
