Governor Meets Locals
Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs. Helen Kilpatrick, CB, got her first taste of warm Caymanian hospitality at a reception in her honour at historic Pedro St. James on Friday evening (6 September 2013).
Hosted jointly by Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson, Cert. Hon. JP and Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin, MBE, JP, the reception offered Mrs. Kilpatrick an opportunity to meet members of civil society outside of a workplace setting.
Both Government leaders again welcomed the Cayman Islands' first woman Governor on a day that they termed auspicious. "We are a warm, hospitable and welcoming people and we have great respect for the office of Governor and those who hold the office of Governor," Mr. McLaughlin said.
In response, Mrs. Kilpatrick presented the Premier, whose birthday it was, with a gift from her home county Sussex. The new Governor commented that she looked forward to meeting and greeting more of the people in all six districts of the Cayman Islands in the days ahead.
The evening featured live steel-pan music and a sampling of traditional Caymanian fare including Cayman-style beef.
