Women's Celebrations Continue
Honouring Women’s Month continues with film screenings and a very purple 5K scheduled over the next two weeks.
Viewings of the film Girls Voice (film) continue throughout the month. The film features girls living in Grand Cayman discussing issues that affect them, such as gender stereotyping, body image, sex and healthy relationships.
Screenings are set for East End Primary School on Thursday, 19 March from 6.30-8.00 pm, then at CIFEC on Monday, 30 March from 6.00-8.00 pm and on Cayman Brac at the Youth Development Center on 30 March at 7:30pm.
The first film event held at the National Gallery on 8 March 2015 attracted over 200 viewers and organizers anticipate even more participation throughout the month.
On 21 March and 22 March 2015, Family Resource Centre (FRC) has teamed up with the North Side community development team to arrange two separate routes for the annual Colour Me Purple 5K Walk/Run, which raises funds for programmes that provided for women and children in the community. Registration cost is $15 and sunglasses are given to the first 200 participants.
The first 5K will begin at Kaibo on Saturday, 21 March. The second will begin at Smith Cove on Sunday, 22 March. Smith Cove is an official run and will feature various “colour bombing” stations.
FRC Programme and Event Coordinator Miriam Foster expressed much gratitude to the North Side community development team and executive council for supporting the 5K.
She added, “Through this partnership, we will continue the great work of Wendy Quinland, the North Side Community Development Officer, who recently passed away. Wendy was instrumental in coordinating the North Side route. It was a great honour to have known her, so we have dedicated both 5Ks to our dear friend and colleague.”
Ms Foster also thanked event sponsors: SOL Petroleum, BAF Insurance, Cobalt Coast, Progressive Distributors, Kaibo Yacht Club, MaplesFS and Fosters Food Fair, as well as those who donated raffle prizes.
In an effort to encourage more participants, a team with five or more persons, will be entered to win a free Lunch & Learn session hosted by FRC.
There will also be votes for best color bombing station, the prize for which is a free corporate wellness and team building day. A prize will also be awarded to the participant wearing the most purple. Families of all ages are invited to attend this event.
