Walkers and runners sign up for the 2015 DG’s 5K Challenge.

Registration dates have been announced for the 2016 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge which takes place in April.

In Grand Cayman, registration will be held in the Government Administration Building on 7, 8, 14 and 15 April from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as 21 and 22 April from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In Cayman Brac, registration will be in the District Administration Building on 7, 8, 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Led by Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, the charity 5K Challenge is scheduled for Cayman Brac on Sunday, 17 April and on Grand Cayman one week later on Sunday, 24 April.

Registration forms are available in the lobbies of the District Administration Building in Cayman Brac and the Government Administration Building in Grand Cayman, via email on DG5K@gov.ky, or can be downloaded at www.odg.gov.ky/DG5K.

Entry fees are $20 for ages 14 and older, and $10 for children 13 and younger. Limited edition 2016 DG’s 5K Challenge t-shirts are available at registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 2016 DG’s 5K Challenge has a target of $50,000 to help Cayman Heart Fund in its $150,000 drive to buy a new ambulance which will be operated by the Health Services Authority.

Now in its third year, the annual event brings together civil servants, private sector employees and members of the public in a fitness and fundraising challenge. It is part of the Deputy Governor’s vision to have a healthier, more active and more socially engaged civil service, while benefitting charitable organisations and initiatives in the Cayman Islands.

The inaugural event in 2014 raised $12,500 for Cayman HospiceCare towards its new building that is due to break ground this spring, and last year raised $50,000 for Special Olympics Cayman Islands which helped fund the athletes’ participation in the Special Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
