General Manager of Recreation, Parks & Cemeteries Unit

Mark Bothwell is responsible for the management of the Recreation, Parks & Cemeteries Unit section of the Public Works Department. He manages over 25 employees in various maintenance roles and is responsible for the upkeep for over 100 Government facilities, including Public Beaches, Parks, Playgrounds, Fields, Cemeteries, Restrooms, and Boat ramps & Jetties. He also prepares the monthly reports for the Chief Officer and assists with management of annual budgets.

Born on Cayman, Mark pursued his education through the US Military, graduating from Admiral Farragut Naval Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida for his high school education. He then went to Tallahassee Community College to receive his Certificate Program in AutoCAD Architectural Design. After this he went back to the US Military in California and received his USGG Master 50 Ton Captain License and his OUPV License at The California Maritime Academy before moving on to the United States Coast Guard in San Francisco and ultimately becoming a Master Captain. He continued his education at the University of Texas at Arlington and then on to the University College of the Cayman Islands where he received an Executive Certificate in Global Leadership.

Mark has been working with PWD for 10 years in the RPCU section.  The Recreation, Parks and Cemeteries Unit was created in 2006 with its overall mission being to manage, maintain and enhance the public facilities in Grand Cayman. In addition RPCU carries out the town management duties in the George Town Central Business District.

Mark is also very active in his local community as hes the Vice President of the Cayman Islands Angling Club. Hes also a member of the Public Vendors committee and the Cemetery/ Burial Review Recommendations & Legal Committee.
