Easter Message from the LOGB

Leader of Government Business, the Hon. Kurt Tibbetts.

Easter has historically been a time for the Cayman Islands, as a Christian nation, to remember our gift of salvation. It is also a time to reflect on the death and resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

And while we reflect, we also celebrate, because the miracle of His resurrection is also a promise that reverberates throughout time. That promise is this: eternal life, to anyone who believes in Christ and follows His example.

Because the founding fathers, and mothers, of the Cayman Islands believed in Christ, they endeavoured to be like Him. So when Easter drew near, they chose to emulate His example of honouring relationships by spending time with their own families, reflecting how Christ spent time with the disciples, drawing them near to Him.

Today, the faith of our ancestors continues to live in us, as part of our Caymanian heritage. As we enter into this long Easter weekend, let us also enjoy time with our families and friends.

In so doing, I ask that each of us honour our family relationships by ensuring their safety over the next four days. I also ask that we protect our environment.

Please remember to drive carefully, and do not drive if you have been drinking. As we take our children on various outings, including the traditional camping trips, let's take time to teach them the value of putting all litter in trash receptacles.

And let's respect the authority of our law enforcement officers, who will make sure that life and property remain safe this weekend.

On behalf of government, I sincerely wish all of us a happy, safe Easter. Let's use this time to rejuvenate our minds, bodies and souls -- and to draw closer to our God and our families. Thank you, and may you and yours be blessed.
