Remember Lili?

With another hurricane season underway and 15 named storms projected, GIS Spotlight's mission this week is to help Cayman prepare for both weather-related and man-made disasters.

Monday 16 June is Cayman's National Day of Preparedness, and so GIS Spotlight is dedicating this entire show to guide residents on various aspects of disaster preparedness and management.

There will be tips on how to protect life and property before, during and after a disaster. Host Heather Hopson will talk with Hazard Management Cayman Islands Director Dr. Barbara Carby, and Meteorological Services Head John Tibbetts. She will also provide viewers with details of several safety demonstration days being hosted at hardware stores across Grand Cayman.

So be there as GIS Spotlight visits Kirk's Home Centre and watch Public Works Department personnel conduct safety demonstrations on the proper use and storage of generators, and more.

And, faced with a major disaster, where would we be without the many volunteers who reach out to help others in need? How will we cope if we lack even the basic medical supplies that can enable us to help ourselves? In this segment, the camera will focus on the training provided for our critically important shelter managers, before taking viewers shopping with the Department of Environmental Health to discover how to create an emergency kit to suit every budget.

GIS Spotlight airs on Mondays at 6:30pm on Cayman27 and again on Thursdays at 7:30pm on Island24. Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing Producer/Host Heather Hopson.
