Caymanian Protection Act and Regulations Officially Take Effect
A new chapter in immigration policy begins today, 1 May 2026, as the Cayman Islands Government brings the Immigration (Transition) (Amendment and Validations) Acts 2025 and 2026 and their accompanying Regulations into force, strengthening protections for Caymanians and modernising the regulatory framework.
Immigration Legislation & Regulations Commence 1 May 2026
Cabinet has approved the commencement orders for amendments to the Act, following their passage in Parliament in December 2025 and March 2026. The amendments will come into force on 1 May, alongside the approval of the accompanying Regulations which are now published and available to the public.
Appointments Made to Immigration Boards
The Ministry of Caymanian Employment and its subsequent departments, the Department of Labour and Pensions (DLP) and Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) acknowledge recent media reports regarding alleged immigration and work permit irregularities involving specific individuals and businesses.
What We Do
The Ministry of Caymanian Employment & Immigration is responsible for the regulation of immigration services, including the administration of work permits, permanent residency, and Caymanian status.The Ministry also plays a central role in promoting the employment of Caymanians.
In addition, the Ministry oversees national labour and pensions matters, ensuring the development of fair, efficient, and sustainable systems that support the long-term growth and prosperity of the Cayman Islands.
