A Brief History of Customs and Border Control

In 2016, the Cayman Islands Government along with support from the UK Government, carried out reviews of immigration and customs functions in an attempt to strengthen border security.  In August 2017, the Cayman Islands Government announced that, as part of the 2018 Strategic Policy Statement, the law enforcement units of the Immigration and Customs Departments would be combined to make a single border protection agency.

The Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control (CBC) Service was established on 1 February 2019 and is responsible for the protection of our borders, the collection of Import Duties, Package tax, and Warehouse fees under the Customs and Border Control Act and Regulations.  CBC is also responsible for the management of travel and trade.
