Criminal Justice System

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions prosecutes criminal offences in the Summary Court and the Grand Court. Our office is also a participant in any subsequent appeal to the Court of Appeal.

The Summary Court deals with criminal and traffic offences, as well as specialist courts such as the Specialist Domestic Violence Court, the Mental Health Court, the Drug Rehabilitation Court, and the Youth Court.

The Grand Court ordinarily deals with serious criminal offences, as well as appeals from the Summary Court. The Court of Appeal hears and determines appeals against conviction and/or sentence.
